One hour from Montreal, Sutton, Bromont, Jay Peak and Stowe, Hillman Farm is a wonderful, historic, authentic retreat from city life. (And a great place to hold a wedding we just learned.) Hundreds of quiet tourist attractions are within one hour's drive including lakes, rivers, wineries, art festivals, mountain trails, and shops. The farm house was built in 1844 and together with the cow barns, granary, horse barn, milk shed and chicken shed, continued as a family farm until approximately 2001. Called "Hillman Farm" after Sarah Hillman, the woman farmer who owned it in the late 1800's, the property has 60 acres planted in switch grass (a fossil fuel replacement crop), 80 acres of woods with trails, a year round brook and a small spring. The rooms in the house can be seen in the farm's website. The house with its hand hewn beams and wide pine floors is a journey into the past that both owners and renters love. The farm is in Saint-Armand, a town in Brome-Missisquoi, known for the ease with which both french and english are spoken.
