Property Description

Set off the beaten path, this newly built beach-house on Pictou Island is available for weekly rentals, and is perfect for families seeking to re-connect with each other and nature. Situated just 100ft from the shore (on private property w/ 500' shorefront), this beach-house comes with acres of solitude and all you basically need for this place to feel like a home you will want to keep coming back to every summer. Pictou Island is 5 miles long, 1 1/2 miles wide, and is situated halfway between Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. It is home to 9 families year-round, and most households are sustained in part by the spring lobster fishery (in May & June). As the island is only accessible by passenger ferry, owners of this property are happy to provide guests with a vehicle for getting around the island. In July & August, round-trip transportation from Halifax International can also be arranged, if requested in advance and for fee not included in rent. Ferry schedule, and more info about the island and how to get here, available upon request. The master bedroom is spacious, located at the northeast end, with its own bathroom. Its main furnishings consist of a queen-size bed, dressers, and a large desk for those who find it hard to leave all their work behind (note: internet access also available at the Pictou Island Community Centre). The other main guest-room has a double bed in it, and is also quite roomy. Located at the northwest end of the house, the nicest part of this bedroom is its view of the adjacent open field and water, with an inviting long sandy beach to the west of the property also visible, in the background. The third bedroom is ideal for kids, with its twin beds, and separate storage area for toys etc. The main bathroom is located just off the main living area. The kitchen is well-equipped but compact, everything within easy reach. As there is no corner store to run to on the island, expect to find onhand paper and plastic products, as well as several household-cleaning agents, for your convenience. The kitchen pantry also comes stocked with basics like salt, pepper (peppercorns w/mill), sugar, oil, vinegar, flour and other essential ingredients, including a variety of herbs and spices, to help make all your meals in this home special. The kitchen is open to the dining/living area and, hopefully, this too will add to your family's meal-time enjoyment, with no one person having to be apart for either preparation or clean-up.
