This is a very large place both in and out. Great lawn area. The lake area is large with a great fire pit. Everything was clean although a bit dated. The proximity to the lake and state forest was great. The A frame is right on the water great for sunsets. We will positively come here again.
Our 4 families rented this home for a long weekend. We have 6 kids ages 1-4yrs old and have rented different properties together for the past 3 years. This is not somewhere we will return. I spent 5 hours cleaning when we arrived (thankfully we were there earlier than our friends.) There were dead bugs and stale cheerios in the edges between the baseboards and the carpet, there were water bottle and milk bottle caps under the baseboard heaters, and there were dirty fingerprints and smudges on all of the walls and switchplates. The carpet was too stained to allow our children to crawl on, much less walk barefoot on. There was animal hair stuck to the one area rug in the living room upstairs and the kitchen floor hadn't been washed. I washed all of the bathroom rugs upon arrival because they were filthy. The extra bedding downstairs was mostly unusable due to hair clinging on it. There was one window AC unit upstairs which was no match for the humidity. The lower level was very damp and smelled of mildew. Those of us who were allergy suffers barely made it through the weekend. There was one box of kleenex in the house and so we used all of the toilet paper blowing noses. When we called to ask for more, the caretaker said he'd never been called out on a Sunday for anything and seemed offended. The glass on the patio table was broken out, so there was no table to use. The boat lift was broken and I had specifically asked 2 days earlier if we could fit one or two boats on it (they said one, but we couldn't use it at all due to it being broken.) I specifically inquired whether there was a sandy beach before booking and was told yes. There is no sandy beach, only a sandy lake bottom with 2 lower swimming docks jutting off of the main dock. The lakeshore is lined with boulders, fyi. This was unfortunate since our kids had all brought their sand toys and only 2 of them were tall enough to swim in the "swimming area" due to the lack of beach. I could continue, but will stop here. Needless to say, we didn't pay the cleaning fee of $125. We attempted to share this feedback with the caretaker, but he was not receptive. His only response was that the place had been trashed over July 4th and they'd called the next two renters to see if they still wanted to stay. Unfortunately, they didn't extend that courtesy to us as we would not have chosen to spend our family vacations here. Please be warned, the setting is gorgeous but that's where it ends.
