Il Valacchio is situated at the edge of the “Montagnola Senese”, a beautiful unspoilt natural area of Tuscany. This small settlement of a few houses, dating back to 1270, is situated about 15 km away from Siena and it appears to be hanging between past and present times. Plonged into the luxuriant green oak, olm-oak and cypress woods, it is partially surrounded by fields and vineyards while enjoying magnificent views over the surrounding hills where the peculiar red colour of the so called “terra di Siena” stands out. This sympathetically restored farmhouse still preserves its original stone structure. The traditional blends here with all the comforts of modern living. The house is divided in two very cosy independent units, “Girasole” and “Papavero”. Both of them are situated at the edge of the settlement and have independent entrancies. The apartments are spacious, comfortable and tastefully furnished according to the typical Tuscan country style. Description of the apartments The apartment Girasole (about 90 square meters, sleeps up to 4 people) is situated on the first floor and consists of an ample living and dining room with an open fireplace, a well equipped kitchen (including a toaster, an oven, a dish washer, a washing machine), a double bedroom with double bed, a double bedroom with twin beds, a bathroom with shower, a lovely outdoor terrace with view over the nearby Poggiarello castle. The apartment Papavero (about 85 square meters, sleeps up to 5-6 people) is situated both on the ground and on the upper floor. It consists of a well equipped kitchen (also including a toaster, an oven, a dish washer, a washing machine), a dining room, a spacious living room with an open fireplace and a double sofa bed, a nice outdoor veranda and a courtyard. A double bedroom with double bed, a double bedroom with twin beds and a bathroom with shower are located on the upper floor. The guests of both apartments can also use a spacious garden with tables, chairs and a barbecue, an outdoor terrace with view and a nice veranda. The favourable position of Il Valacchio allows for a combination of countryside tranquillity as well as providing various possibilities for excursions to places of natural beauty and of cultural relevance, like Siena, San Gimignano, Florence, Monteriggioni, the San Galgano abbey, Massa Marittima, the Monte Oliveto Maggiore abbey, Montalcino, Pienza.
