It is 100 yards from the beach boardwalk and a 10 mile long beach. Only 200 yards in the opposite direction is the Night Heron Park. The park has a Nature Center, basketball and volleyball courts, soccer fields, family programs, a fitness course and bike rentals. There are miles of biking and hiking trails throughout the island. Kiawah has 4 public golf courses and one championship course, The Ocean Course (2012 PGA). Off island, Shadowmoss and Stono Ferry are good golf courses. The tennis facilities have been ranked #1 by Tennis Magazine. There is a full spa facility in the Sanctuary Hotel. Kiawah is beautiful and non-comercial. Great effort is made to care for the natural setting and wildlife of the area. Many of the recreational activities involve exploring the flora and fauna of the island. Meanwhile, downtown Charleston, SC is a mere 40 minute drive. Great restaurants, night life, historic tours, museums, galleries and shopping await you there.
